The tie was already decided in Alajuela, but Colo Colo made sure to reduce Alajuelense's South American dream to fine dust with a 7-2 result in Santiago. This made the albos 11-2 victors on aggregate - a record margin for the Copa Sudamericana. It was Alajuelense's 100th match against South American teams since its founding, but no one will want to remember this result.
It was a better experience for the other CONCACAF clubs in the Sudamericana, as Toluca and Pachuca won their ties against El Nacional and Tolima to advance to the final eight.
