The semifinals of the UNCAF Torneo Interclubes are now set - Marquense vs. Puntarenas in one semi, Victoria vs. Olimpia in the other. The semifinal winners qualify for the CONCACAF Champions' Cup, and the semifinal losers play-off over two legs to decide the final Central American representative. This guarantees that one of the three Central American representatives in next year's Champions Cup will be from Honduras.
What is most interesting about the semifinal round is who are absent - the Costa Rican giants (and former continental champions) Alajuelense and Saprissa. Saprissa is not the team they were two years ago, or even a year ago, but Alajuelense have been very disappointing. Their play in the back has been frustrating to watch, but at San José's La Nación put it, their errors have been put on display to the entire continent.
Based on the relative strengths of the clubs, and their current form, I would pick Olimpia and Puntarenas to get the first two berths into CONCACAF, and Marquense to defeat Victoria for the third.
