Back again

I moved into my new apartment in Tucson more than two weeks ago, but it took me that long just to get to the point where I could purchase an internet connection and return to HexagonalBlog.  I'm still getting settled in here, and I imagine that it will be like this for at least another month.   Cross-country moves are always hectic, not matter how well organized they are.  But it's been smooth - not a single item was broken by the moving company, which must be some kind of record.    So if you're in a part of the country served by Joyce Van Lines, I recommend them very highly.

Anyway, I'm back, and much to my surprise this blog account is still current.  I'll be back in a day or two with some more updates, and I'm sure I've missed a lot in the soccer world.

Oh, and to those of you wondering, I purchased HD cable.  The number and variety of channels that I can get with cable in this part of the country make it possible to survive if you can't use satellite (and since my apartment in fact faces the mountains I probably couldn't use satellite even if I wanted to).  And sports look great on HD, though I recommend buying a receiver that handles HD and analog signals equally well.

HexagonalBlog: Now in Tucson!

As I said in my previous post, I'm now in Tucson.  I arrived here yesterday and the rest of my belongings should arrive on Monday or Tuesday.  As if to greet my arrival, the temperature got up to 105 -- which is hot, of course, but not unbearable to this Florida boy.  It rarely gets above 110 in Tucson, so I think I can handle living here.  There's also more greenery than I remembered seeing in April, so it's not quite the Martian landscape.

I do want to continue this blog, but I'll have to make the best use of my time because there is so much to explore in this part of Arizona! 

UNCAF First Round matches

I'm in the middle of my relocation, but in the interim the first matches of the UNCAF club tournament were played.  Last night, Saprissa and Real España got a scare from their opponents, having to come from behind to win the home leg of their ties.  In Panama, Tauro defeated Guatemalan side Xelaju by the minimum, which sets up an interesting return leg in Quetaltenango. 

The remaining matches of the round will be played tonight.  I won't be able to update this post until my arrival in Tucson tomorrow afternoon.

It is finally time to depart northwest Florida for south Florida and then the southern Arizona desert.  It's been great to be back in my home state, and I'll have fond memories of my time near the beach, but I'm excited about the opportunity that's awaiting me in Tucson.  I won't be there until Friday, so until then I'll be another unemployed thirtysomething living with his parents.  I don't know if I will be able to make a serious post before I arrive in Arizona, so if I can't I'll set up some open threads for both of my readers. :)

I don't get it

I really don't get why some people are upset that David Beckham isn't playing.  It's not like Beckham can't play because he's off to Europe to play in a Eurocup qualifier.  I could understand why people wouldn't be happy in that case.  But Beckham is hurt.  Injuries are part of the game, and part of the risk of sporting events.  Yeah, it really stinks that he picked up that injury while playing for England and aggravated it while playing for Real Madrid, but that happens.  It also stinks that folks are paying prices way above average in the hopes of seeing him play, but that is the risk associated with attending a sporting event.  The Galaxy want Beckham to play.  The League want Beckham to play.  Beckham wants Beckham to play.  But he can't.

Frustrated I can understand.  Upset, even angry - no.
