The CFU Club tournament got underway on Sunday night with a slate of matches from all five groups. Only three sides were able to obtain positive results: Cuba's Pinar del Río, Jamaica's Portmore United, and Haiti's Baltimore de St. Marc. Pinar del Río and Baltimore de St. Marc are in Group E but do not play each other until the final round of group matches, so it's possible that both could be through to the quarterfinal round by then. In other news of interest to USL fans, the Puerto Rico Islanders drew 2-2 with Jamaica's Harbour View after taking a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes. Both sides have a good chance of advancing to the quarterfinals as well.
The second round of group matches have concluded except for the late match in Macoya at the time of this post, but I haven't seen any results yet.
UPDATE: The results for the second day of group matches are here. Both Surinamese clubs are doing well in the competition, with Inter's 2-1 win over Harbour View standing out. The big surprise result is Bassa FC defeating Pinar del Río 2-1. It's especially impressive because they fell behind early and didn't turn the match around until midway through the second half. Other than that, there were a lot of blowout results. Two matches had five goals scored, one had ten goals scored, and another had twelve -- all without reply from the losing side.
With one round of matches to play:
Group A: Jabloteh* 3, Barber 1, Deportivo Nacional* 1.
Group B: Joe Public* 3, SE United 1, SV RCA* 1.
Group C: San Juan 4, Inter 4, Harbour View 1, Sap 1.
Group D: Portmore Utd* 3, Leo Victor* 3, Helenites 0.
Group E: Baltimore 6, Bassa 3, Pinar del Río 3, Jong Colombia 0.
(*) - Played one match in three-team group.
