Quick thoughts on Semifinal Round Day One
It's late, but I really want to put down my unordered thoughts on last week's qualifiers:
- The USA is getting better at obtaining wins in Central America (outside of Costa Rica). But they don't look good doing it. This team has a lot of work to do.
- Guatemala had it all - a man advantage, a home crowd, and an opponent on their heels. And they press the self-destruct button.
- Maybe Suriname won't be everyone's doormat in Group C.
- Haiti's nerves are going to get the best of them in this round. There went their best chance for a home win.
- That T&T-Guatemala match gives the Soca Warriors a chance to take control of their destiny in the group and prolong CONCACAF's longest-running soap opera.
- How fitting that Costa Rica would score its lone goal from the penalty spot.
- Right after saying that Canada had a solid goalkeeping corps, their first-choice keeper hands the game to Jamaica. Sorry.
- A true home qualifier for Canada in Toronto! Shame about the turf though.
- Mexico-Honduras. Match. Of. The. Round. Three points from the toughest home match is an accomplishment and a relief.
- Is Honduras capable of playing like this at home?
