Preview of Semifinal Round Day Five
Group A/1
Trinidad & Tobago vs. USA - T&T need to win to maintain second place, while the USA have nothing to play for, although the young players who will take the field have jobs to play for. I see the match ending in a draw.
Cuba vs. Guatemala - Guatemala should get the win in Cuba, and then it will all come down to their match with the USA next month. Right?
Group B/2
Canada vs. Mexico - It will be below freezing in Edmonton, which won't be comfortable for the Mexican players. But how much pressure will Canada exert when they have nothing to play for? Just a point will do for Mexico, and that's what I think they'll get.
Jamaica vs. Honduras - Every match for Jamaica is like a World Cup final for them. Theodore Whitmore has called more foreign-based players than Rene Simoes did in his second stint, and the results showed in their match against Mexico. Honduras have a reputation of playing aggressively away from home, but they've never won in Jamaica. I'm going to go on a limb and predict a Jamaica win before a raucous National Stadium.
Group C/3
El Salvador vs. Suriname - Finally a group with two straightforward matches. El Salvador advances to the Hex with an easy win.
Costa Rica vs. Haiti - Costa Rica will win easily.
