A few more thoughts on Sunday's match:
- It was so cool for Carlos Bianchi to come to Los Angeles to celebrate the final with Schelotto. I'd love to see him come to the States to coach -- preferably a Miami team if MLS approves Barca's proposal.
- I think next year we'll see Schelotto answer questions in English. In the post-match news conference he was responding to English-language questions (in Spanish) without the need for a translator.
- In the final analysis, the match turned on the conceded corner kick that led to Columbus' second goal. And it was a really innocuous corner to concede. As Juan Carlos Osorio said in the post-match press conference, Schelotto is the most effective player in dead-ball situations, and he demonstrated it on that play.
- HSG has a lot of work to do to keep Schmid, Schelotto, and other players in Columbus. And if that offer from the Sounders has any merit, they are in for an uphill task.
- That said, I do hope Guille stays with the Crew. He has been a tremendous asset to Boca Juniors in international matches, and he will be the same thing in the CCL.
- I do hope that Red Bull Arena is completed in time for next year's Champions League matches. I'm sure the CONCACAF front office is hoping for the same thing -- and that the Red Bulls progress to the group stage as well.
